The Mozambican police announced on Tuesday the arrests of 12 illegal immigrants at Maputo International Airport.According to a police press release, the migrants – eight Somalis, three Chinese and an Indian – arrived on a domestic flight of Mozambique Airlines (LAM) from the northern city of Nampula.The police did not give the exact date of the arrests, merely that they had occurred some time last week. The release said that preparations are under way to repatriate the 12.The release added that the police detained 17 illegal Congolese immigrants, but gave neither the date nor the place of these arrests.The document also said that last week 735 people were arrested for crossing the border illegally – they were 430 Mozambicans, 159 Malawians, 91 Zimbabweans, 46 Zambians and eight Tanzanians.Over the same period, 102 Mozambican illegal migrants were repatriated from South Africa.
