As a result of the rising price of raw materials acquired
abroad such as yeast, vitamin and other ingredients, the price of bread may be
going up again soon, according to “Domingo”.This will be the second price rise
in six months, the first taking place in October 2015 when the government
stopped subsidizing the price of flour. As a result, the price of a loaf went
up from 6 to 7.5 meticais – a 25 percent rise.Negotiation between the
government and the bakeries to find a way of preventing another price rise are
under way, but Victor Miguel, the president of the Mozambican Association of
Bakers, says that if a solution is not found, bakers will have no choice but to
raise prices.
