The Mozambican Head of State,
Filipe Nyusi, dismissed by presidential order the Prime Minister, Carlos
Agostinho do Rosario, from his position since 2015.
A press release from the
Presidency of the Republic sent today to the AIM Newsroom states that the Head
of State also dismissed, in separate orders, the interior ministers, Basilio
Monteiro; of Education and Human Development, Conceita Sortane; Youth and
Sports, Nyeleti Mondlane; of State Administration and Civil Service, Carmelita
Namashulua and Labor, Employment and Social Security, Vitória Diogo.The
document, which does not explain the reasons for the dismissals, says that the
Head of State also exonerated the governors of Maputo and Niassa provinces,
Raimundo Diomba and Francisca Domingos Tomás, respectively.
The note also states that Nyusi
exonerated Catarina Dimande, as adviser to the President of the Republic.
The exonerations appear on the
eve of the Nyusi investiture ceremony, scheduled for next Wednesday, a solemn
event that will take place in the Mozambican capital Maputo.At least 12 Heads
of State and Government have already confirmed their presence at the event, and
it is expected that around 3,000 people will participate, both national and
foreign.Nyusi won the presidential election with 73 percent of the vote,
compared to 21.88 for Renamo's second-voted Ossufo Momade.However, next Monday, the
inauguration ceremony of the Deputies of the Assembly of the Republic (AR), the
Mozambican parliament, will take place.The ruling Frelimo won 184 250 seats,
followed by Renamo, the largest opposition party, with 60, and finally the
Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), the second largest opposition party,
with six.The investiture of members of the Provincial Assemblies will take
place on the 17th of the current month.
