Mozambican
company ideiaLab is the only Portuguese-speaking institution among 22,000
applicants chosen be part of Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH), an initiative
organised by the Africa Netpreneur Prize Initiative, the main programme of the
philanthropist Jack Ma in Africa. The aim of this programme is to identify,
support and inspire a generation of African entrepreneurs who want to make a
difference in their community. Above all, the competition seeks to identify
organisations that create solutions to the most urgent problems in the
framework of a sustainable and inclusive economy. ABH seeks passion, resilience
and a focus on the impact of each company. Ideialab is the only
Portuguese-speaking company selected among the many competent and innovative
entrants from Africa’s 54 countries. The 50 finalists represent 21 countries,
with 50% of those chosen led by women. The average age of the founders is 37
years old.
“We are very
honoured and happy with this nomination,” ideiaLab co-founder Sara Fakir says.
“Being among the Africa’s Business Heroes prize finalists is a sign of
recognition of our hard work. We are the only company that speaks Portuguese
that is part of this selection and this only validates the quality of our work
and our competence. We have been working for 10 years to catalyse the
entrepreneurial ecosystem and we have only achieved it because of the
entrepreneurs and partners we work with on a daily basis. Mozambique is on the
world map of entrepreneurship for all the best reasons, and this award gives us
more courage to continue working.”The final will take place in mid-November or
December in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, with the format of the event
dependent on the Covid-19 situation at the time.
