The Mozambican government wants greater coordination between the authorities and civil society and partners in the execution of youth programmes, so that all regions of the country benefit equally from opportunities. Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário was speaking on Monday at the opening of the first meeting of the Intersectoral Committee to Support the Development of Teenagers and Youth (CIADAJ).
The meeting assessed the 2021 Youth Policy Implementation Action Plan, an instrument to be submitted to the Council of Ministers for consideration and approval. According to the prime minister, the problem is that some partners develop actions in the same region, because there is no coordination with the authorities in the execution of their programmes. He stressed that the Youth Policy Implementation Action Plan must be realistic, taking into account the ability to seek financial resources for its execution. The prime minister appealed to all sectors and partners to present proposals with an impact on the lives of adolescents and young people, adding that this group was a government priority.
Proposals, Prime Minister Rosário said, should take into account the challenges and risks which can compromise the healthy and productive growth of adolescents and young people, including premature marriage, dropping out of school (especially girls), drug use, HIV/Aids infection, and so on. The meeting brought together organisations working in the youth field, including the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which this year made US$39 million available in the areas of health, gender, youth programmes, humanitarian aid and employment.
