Four hundred hectares of land are being utilised for a eucalyptus plantation in the district of Bilene, Gaza province, Noticias reports. Spokesman for the Gaza Provincial Executive Council (CEP), Almeida Guilume, said at the end of the body’s 5th Ordinary Session that the ambitious project would restore forest areas and bring environmental and social benefits, including job creation. Seventy local workers, in both permanent and seasonal jobs, are involved in the project.
Guillaume further said that reforestation and the creation of green spaces were priorities for the provincial government, with a view to improving the ecosystem. To ensure the participation of citizens in the preservation of the environment, other community reforestation programs were underway, he said, instancing the Chiridzane ‘Sacred Forest’ in Limpopo district, and another project in Chibuto. The project is expected to reach other parts of the province in the near future.
