The Mambas started a 2-2 draw
against Cape Verde on Monday (18) in Praia, and maintained the lead of Group F
qualifying for the 2021 African Championship of Nations (CAN). After an
expectant entrance the Mozambique team was surprised by the avalanche of
attacking "Blue Sharks" that in the 5th minute resulted in the
opening of the score by Garry Mendes Rodrigues.
The Mozambicans settled their
game and Telinho, with a cross-shot in the 18th minute, tied the match of the
second round of qualification for the CAN of 2021. The Mambas tipped the
national stadium and could have done the somersault on the scorer before the
break having Ponck cut a ball near the goal line.
The Cape Verdeans came back
strong from the break, imposed their pace and advanced again on the scoreboard
thanks to a powerful and placed shot from Ryan Mendes in the 58th minute.
Already in time for compensation,
with the party taking place on the stands, Dominguez received the ball on the
right flank, bounced into the center leaving three opponents out and served
Witi who in the past left standing in the back of Vozinha's nets. With a win
and a draw in 2 matches Mozambique leads Group F with 4 points with the same
points as Cameroon beat Rwanda in Kigali. Cape Verde has 1 point and Rwanda 0.
