Nampula Province To Receive US$1.4 billion

In the coming days, the province of Nampula expects to receive US$1.4 billion of investment for projects presented at the province’s first investor conference, held in September.According to provincial government spokesman António Zacarias, conference expectations were surpassed and 40 percent of the province's US$3.4 billion investment needs were satisfied. To manage the inflow of funds, the provincial government has created a working team and developed an action plan for different areas. "It is a matrix in which the activities to be undertaken until we get the operational investments are contained. Due to the nature of the work, the operationalization of the matrix has the involvement of the provincial directors in those sectors covered by the funding," Zacarias explained. The funds will be spent in areas such as water, education and roads, he said, stressing that the ones damaged by the rains in February and March will be a priority. The Nampula government’s first investor conference, publicizing and promoting the province’s potential in order to attract domestic and foreign investment, was held on September 18 of this year.Given the province’s diversity, the conference attempted to direct investment into priority areas such as water supply, roads and bridges, energy, food security and land use planning. The construction of ten new water supply systems at a price tag of US$20 million and the rehabilitation and asphalting of roads at US$37 million were among the opportunities featured.
