Mozambique comes second in medals log

Mozambique came second overall in the tenth CPLP Games, which ended on Sunday in Sal Island, Cape Verde, its best-ever showing since the inauguration of this Portuguese-speaking event in 1992.The country’s 34-medal haul, including 13 gold, as many silver and eight bronze, surpassed its last -best performance in Mafra, Portugal, in 2012.In this edition, which brought together Mozambique, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde (the host), Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor, Mozambique further exceeded expectations by winning gold in women’s basketball, beating traditional favourites including Portugal and Brazil on its way to the unprecedented feat.

The volleyball and taekwondo teams took silver and bronze medals, but football and handball did not make the podium.As expected, the Paralympics were, once again, the nation’s salvation, rendering 14 medals, of which 10 were gold and four silver.
