State spends US$60 million

Mozambican state-owned airport management company Aeroportos de Moçambique (AdM) expects this year to spend US$60 million improving airport infrastructure in the country, which will have the support of France, Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias reported.The schedule of works cited by the newspaper, which includes the acquisition of equipment and systems, will spend most of the money on repairing runways (US$22 million) and construction and modernisation of buildings (US$22 million).According to figures included in the state budget for 2016, ADM will spend US$8.5 million on studies and projects, with the remaining US$7.5 million invested in various projects, such as runway maintenance, fencing, access roads and buildings and construction of fuel tanks.Part of the funds needed to carry out this plan will come out of the state budget, with a percentage that has not been disclosed to be disbursed by the French Development Agency.The newspaper recalled that the country has been modernising and expanding its airport facilities, including those in Maputo and Nacala, whose air base was transformed into an international airport by Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
