The President of the Republic
of Mozambique announced during a popular rally held in the district
town-headquarters on Friday that the multinational Anadarko will recruit in the
coming months more than five thousand workers, mainly young people from the
district of Palma, Cabo Delgado, for the construction works of the natural gas
liquefaction plant.
According to President Nyusi,
the US firm will soon present a corresponding recruitment plan to the
Government. “It was at our request because we have to know the type of
workforce that the company intends to recruit, to train young people who can
access employment opportunities in the company. By 2020 the construction works
of the plant must start,” indicated the Head of State.
President Nyusi was responding
to a concern expressed by the population that local youth had no employment
opportunities in the multinational companies operating in Palma. The Head of
State drew attention to the dangers of inciting tribalism and regionalism
divisions due to the lack of job opportunities. “There is not a country or a
region that develops only with the natives, there are teachers, nurses and
others who are not from here, even Anadarko, ENI are not from here, if you
continue to speak and think only of ‘we’, Palma will not develop,” said the
President.
On the incursions of armed
groups in the northern region of the province of Cabo Delgado, the President of
the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence and Security Forces (FDS),
assured that these forces will never stop pursuing the insurgents, in
protection of the citizens.
According to Nyusi, the group
that terrorises Cabo Delgado consists of nationals, mostly young,” deceived by
some foreigners who want to destabilise Mozambique”.
The President of the Republic
said that the Government knows that many young people who are part of these
group were recruited at the administrative posts of Quionga, Olumbi and
Pundanhar, in the district of Palma.
“We know that in the group
there are young people and adults deceived by people who do not go to the bush,
they kill defenceless citizens with the promise that if they are killed they
will have happiness in heaven. Stand united so that these bad people do not
camp here in Palma and other districts,” he appealed, adding that the coastal
zone has become permeable to the penetration of evil groups.
