Covid-19

The Mozambique analyst at IHS Markit told Lusa today that she expects the country to grow between 3% and 4% this year, and that IMF financial aid will re-start in the second half.
“We continue to predict that GDP growth rate will be between 3% and 4% this year,” Thea Fourie told Lusa regarding the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Mozambique.
“Reconstruction efforts following last year’s cyclone will continue, and the development of liquid natural gas in the north of the country should also support growth,” she added. However, “The slowdown in global economic growth and raw material prices will undermine Mozambique’s specific growth rate,” she warned. Regarding the economic aid programme under discussion with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Fourie says its approval should guarantee financial support “which during the second half of this year will support the economy”.
