The Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique says that restrictions on
exports of national products caused by the spread of the new Covid-19
coronavirus are already compromising the rapid recovery of the country’s
economy. The organisation’s chairman, Julião Dimande, said that the extractive
industry sector was the worst affected, with border closures in some
countries that import mineral resources from Mozambique. Speaking to journalists in Maputo on Wednesday at a meeting on the
impacts of the Covid-19 outbreak in the business sector, the chairman of
the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique nevertheless urged that the South
African government’s border closure measure be understood as a gesture
of solidarity with its neighbours. The Chamber of Commerce announced that it planned to arrange a day of
consultation for members to brainstorm solutions aimed at minimising
the impact of the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus.
