The Mozambican government is scheduled to sign three loan agreements this week, totalling almost 31 million US dollars, with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (ABEDA).According to a press release from the Finance Ministry, the agreements will be signed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where Finance Minister Manuel Chang and the Governor of the Bank of Mozambique, Ernesto Gove, are attending the 36th annual meeting of the IDB.One loan, for 11.9 million dollars, has been granted by the IDB for water supply and sanitation projects in the northern province of Cabo Delgado and the southern province of Gaza.A second agreement, worth nine million dollars, provides funding for the construction of agricultural colleges in Gaza and Manica provinces.BADEA is also providing 10 million dollars for the construction and equipping of two schools and technical institutes in Cabo Delgado and Niassa provinces.In addition, the IDB has offered Mozambique a grant of 312,500 dollars for the project to revitalize the National Cotton Institute,Mozambique joined the IDB in 1995. Since then the IDB has providing funding for the rehabilitation of the Macarretane dam in the Limpopo valley in Gaza, for rural electrification in Cabo Delgado, and for several education projects.
