Denies having “doubled” ticket prices


After hearing about news of a 100% price increase on ticket prices with the national flag carrier, the Director-General of LAM Mozambican Airlines, João Carlos Pó Jorge, yesterday clarified to ‘O País’ the details of the price adjustments the company has in fact made.
Imagem relacionada“There was no 100% increase. What we did was to introduce our new tariffs. Some fares went down, and some went (slightly) up, with more services being provided,” João Carlos Pó Jorge explained. He gave the example of business class, where “passengers want more support service”.
‘O País’ in fact discovered that, on the LAM website, a round trip from Maputo to Lichinga which used to cost between 7,000 and 19,000 meticais would now, for a passenger wanting to travel on January 4 and return on January 11, cost about 17,000 meticais.

“The key is to buy in advance, and look at all the options. This means not just buying the ticket on the day of the trip,” João Jorge Carlos said, explaining that there were always ways to pay less for tickets. In an exclusive interview with ‘O País’ yesterday, LAM’s CEO also spoke of the company’s commitment to continue to providing a more social services, with favourable prices for the elderly and students, for example.
LAM expects to bolster its fleet with a Q400 and a Boeing 737 in the coming months, allowing the transport of more cargo and passengers, and is looking forward to starting flights to Lisbon sometime around next March.
