About 1,400 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Mozambique Defense (FADM) defected from the army ranks, due to undisclosed reasons, according to figures released Monday by the Ministry of Combatants, without revealing the exact time of occurrence.The data was released by the Minister of this portfolio, Eusebius Lambo, a meeting between senior officials of his ministry with the President, Filipe Nyusi in a report for the balance of the activities of the past year.The figures show that the province of Tete, one of the battlefields in the current wave of political and military tension, is the province with more defections.In this province the center of the country was detected the existence of "two battalions with a total workforce of 1170 former military regarded as deserters," said the Minister of Combatants.Another large group, composed of "220 former soldiers" fled the barracks in Sofala province and are refugees in neighboring Malawi, according to data revealed in the Ministry's report directed by Eusebius Lambo.
