Judokas bring home 11 medals from African Commonwealth rankings

Mhoje_judo5_photo_jpgMozambican judo continues to make history in Africa, with national judokas coming back from the African Commonwealth and national ranking in neighbouring South Africa with a total of 11 medals – four gold, four silver and three bronze.Kevin Loforte won silver and bronze in the junior category, while Artur Junior took gold and bronze. Loforte won two gold medals in the national ranking, where Junior won gold and silver, and Ayton Siquir and Carlitos Fondo also took podium places with bronze and silver respectively.The four athletes were accompanied by national cadets and juniors coach, Adriano Cândido.The Mozambican Judo Federation assessed the Mozambican judokas’ participation very positively, highlighting the fact that present levels of progression will bear fruit in the future.“I think we were very good. The judokas were in good shape and won podium places. They gave every indication of a bright future for Mozambican judo,” said Nilton Mujovo, secretary general of the Mozambican Judo Federation.Mujovo also said that the most important task now is to ensure greater exposure for the athletes so that they can gain experience and meet their opponents more often.Mujovo himself won a silver medal in the Veteran’s competition.
